We are thrilled to share that on January 21, 2025, the Batenga Community Foundation officially relaunched its youth arm: the Konooweka Youth Program.
Young people represent the future of Uganda, yet many in rural and semi-urban communities face significant barriers to self-reliance. Unemployment, lack of vocational training, and limited access to mentorship can hinder their progress.
A Renewed Focus on Skill Building
The relaunched Konooweka program focuses heavily on equipping young people with practical skills that translate directly to employment or self-employment opportunities. Our upcoming cohorts will cover training in:
- Tailoring & Fashion Design: Providing local youth with creative and commercial skill sets.
- Basic Computer Literacy: Introducing key digital skills needed for contemporary commerce.
- Carpentry & Joinery: Hands-on craftsmanship workshops led by local professionals.
Strengthening Civic Engagement
In addition to practical skill training, Konooweka will serve as a platform for active civic sensitization. By encouraging young people to understand community organization, governmental structures, and civic duties, we hope to foster a generation of responsible, active, and helpful citizens.
