Shelter is one of the most basic human needs, yet for many widows and child-headed families in Uganda, a safe home is out of reach. Often, they live in dilapidated structures prone to collapsing during heavy rains, creating severe health and safety risks.
We are proud to celebrate a major milestone: forty permanent brick-and-mortar homes have now been constructed and handed over to deserving families.
Bringing Safe Spaces to Kyankwanzi & Buikwe
Our housing projects are concentrated in districts where shelter insecurity is high:
- Kyankwanzi District: 21 permanent houses completed.
- Buikwe District: 19 permanent houses completed.
Each home is valued at UGX 5,000,000 (approx. USD 1,350). These are not temporary shelters; they are durable brick structures built with concrete floors and secure iron-sheet roofing, designed to protect families for decades.
Real Impact Beyond Brick and Mortar
Building a house is about more than physical construction; it is about restoring dignity:
- Safety and Health: Families are protected from weather elements and malaria-carrying mosquitoes.
- Mental Well-being: Widows no longer live under the constant stress of potential collapse or eviction.
- Child Security: Child-headed households have a secure base, allowing children to focus on their education.
This milestone was made possible by the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of our local build teams. As we look ahead, we hope to build many more homes and continue restoring dignity to communities across Uganda.
